Flash Mountain Crystal Mine is unlike most crystal mines in Arkansas.

Long before a single crystal was uncovered, Kathy Spaulding simply called this mountain home. It wasn't until years after purchasing the property that sparkling quartz was discovered on the steep hillsides surrounding her backyard. What began as curiosity quickly became years of exploration, revealing one of Arkansas's most remarkable new crystal localities.

Today, Flash Mountain spans nearly 20 acres of rugged mountain terrain in Pulaski County, Arkansas. Every trail, pocket, and excavation has been developed through countless hours of exploration by Kathy Spaulding and Cari Sanson.

Some of the quartz varieties recovered here—including distinctive forms of solution quartz—are found nowhere else in Arkansas. Each discovery continues to deepen our understanding of this extraordinary mountain.

Rather than operating as a traditional commercial mine, Flash Mountain remains a private property that has been thoughtfully opened to fellow rockhounds and collectors. Through scheduled pocket digs, visitors have the rare opportunity to experience the excitement of uncovering crystals in the very place they formed millions of years ago.
